Plastic Surgeon in Detroit - Breast Reconstruction Surgery

Detroit breast reconstruction - Over 190,000 women would be diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States in 2009 according to an estimate from the American Cancer Society, which predicted that close to 40,000 would die of the disease. Faced with such a deadly malady, doctors are often forced to remove the offending body part completely lest the tumor spread. Women who must undergo a mastectomy, however, are also presented with a whole host of potential physical and emotional woes over and above the cancer. The breast may seem purely decorative from certain perspectives, but often plays a central role in a woman's sense of self and femininity.

It would be the epitome of understatement to suggest that the decision to have breast reconstruction is highly personal. Though a reconstructed breast will never look or feel exactly like the original breast, it can make a significant positive impact on the self image and quality of life of women who choose to undergo the procedure, and a study by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons released in 2008 found that 98% of women would choose breast reconstruction again. Detroit plastic surgeon, Dr. Mohamad H. Bazzi, is a board certified plastic surgeon providing breast surgery and a full range of cosmetic procedures.

Beverly Hills - Breast Enhancement

A little time searching the history of prosthetics turns up regular mention of Ambroise Paré as being the father of medical amputation and, incidentally, influential in the field of prosthetics. Examples are cited of "earliest known" prosthetics, and one finds commentary about how little materials or technique have changed over the bulk of history. As with so many arenas of human knowledge, however, prosthetics have really taken off over the last century. Iron, wood, and leather have been replaced by plastics, fiberglass, and other space-age materials. What's all this got to do with breast implants in Beverly Hills, you ask?

A prosthesis is defined as an artificial device used to replace a body part or to make a body part work better. Arms and legs might be easily spotted without the use of X-rays, at least at a pool or decathlon, but the term also applies to a much broader range of gear. Ears, eyes, fingers, teeth, and even eyeglasses qualify, and so do devices placed surgically inside the body.

As with external prostheses, breast implants used by Los Angeles plastic surgeon Dr. Marc Mani must conform specifically to the individual patient. Unlike an arm or a leg, breast implants are surgically implanted in a patient's chest, either over or under the underlying pectoral muscle. Because these implants do not technically serve a life-sustaining purpose, the surgery is elective, and so not generally covered by insurance. The decision to have breast augmentation surgery, then, is that much more personal. The benefits of breast augmentation may be less easily defined than that of replacing a leg, but are no less real.

La Jolla Breast Enhancement Surgery

Plastic Surgeon in La Jolla - Self improvement takes many forms, from choosing a sensible salad instead of that bonanza-burger Board certified plastic surgeon in San Diego California Robert Kearney to turning off the video game and cracking open the pages of a true classic. Not only does taking time for physical activity improve your health, but improved health improves the way you feel generally. Maybe that's why we seek to improve ourselves; it does make us feel better. What about the things we can't change about ourselves, however? The ubiquitous message that a woman's breasts should look a certain way and be a certain size runs pretty far afoul of the reality that time and life have a great deal more control over those statistics than she has. Dr. Robert Kearney provides La Jolla breast augmentation patients highly personalized care for a highly personal decision.

Reduction Breast Surgery in Beverly Hills, CA

Not all Los Angeles breast surgery is performed on women. Most men will develop gynecomastia for a multitude of reasons, Beverly Hills Gynecomastia which, at its root, is just an abnormal enlargement of one or both of the breast areas on a man's chest. Of course, while "man boobs" aren't particularly detrimental to physical health, they can be a source of embarrassment that men thus afflicted may be loathe to discuss even with a trusted physician. Beverly Hills plastic surgeon, Dr. Steven Teitelbaum, saw the need to provide men with a simple, informative, private way to learn more about their options for dealing with gynecomastia, and part of his efforts to meet that need comes in the form of a web site devoted expressly to gynecomastia treatment.

A Breast Reduction Procedure May Take Anywhere From Two To Five Hours

Depending on the size of a woman's breasts, the desired post-operative size and the technique used, a breast reduction procedure may take anywhere from two to five hours. Breast reduction surgery is performed in a hospital setting or an office-based ambulatory facility. There are some insurance companies that require a minimum volume of tissue to be removed to cover the surgery. This needs to be pre-determined by your plastic surgeon and a letter for pre-determination should be sent to the insurance carrier along with photographs of your condition in order to demonstrate the necessity for a breast reduction. There are various techniques available to alleviate the problem which will likely be discussed with you when you meet your plastic surgeon. The most often performed technique is with the use of an inverted T-shape incision that is similar to the most common incision used in a mastopexy. There are several new techniques that are available, but most of these techniques don't apply to many patients.

Reduction Mammoplasty Is Usually Performed For Relief Of Medical Or Physical Pain

A breast reduction, in contrast to a breast lift procedure, is typically performed for relief of physical or medical problems that are caused by the weight of one's excessively large breasts. Back and neck pain, breathing problems, and skin rashes are some of the medical conditions that are frequently associated with large breasts. Many women who need this plastic surgery procedure feel an extreme sense of self consciousness secondary to the large size of their breasts. Breast reduction, technically called a reduction mammoplasty, is created to alleviate all of these problems. The surgery involves the removal of breast tissues, fat, and skin from the breasts thereby creating a firmer, lighter, and smaller structure. Also, if the size of the woman's arealo is excessive as well, this may be corrected at the time of the surgery.

Mammoplasty Procedures With The Use Of Saline Implants Leads To Beautiful, Natural, Youthful Breasts

Saline breast implants have been used in the majority of breast augmentation procedures over the last fifteen years. One advantage of saline breast implants is that, if they rupture, the saline will be absorbed by the body without fear of any complications. Additional benefits include the ability for a plastic surgeon to subtly change the volume of the implant within the operating room to accommodate any small differences in the volume of the two breasts. The disadvantages of saline implants are that they have a higher risk of rippling in breast reconstructive or small-breasted patients. For patients who have very little breast tissue to cover the implants, wrinkling or rippling of the implant may become visible. However, the majority of breast augmentation procedures performed today with saline implants lead to beautiful, youthful, natural breasts.

Used In Breast Reconstruction, Silicone Breast Implants Have A Natural Look And Feel

The silicone breast implants (now approved for general use) that are used today have a somewhat thicker shell than those that were used before 1992. They are also filled with a thicker silicone gel than past implants. The breast implants come pre-filled in various sizes and they are securely sealed so that there is little to no chance of any leakage. The word silicone with an "e" at the end is referring to a group of chemical compounds that vary in thickness from gels to liquid to a rubbery consistency. Among other things, they contain silicon (with no "e") which is an element, just like carbon, iron, or nitrogen. Silicon is the second most common on Earth after oxygen. When oxygen and silicon are combined it forms silica which is the most common substance on the planet. Most people know silica in many different forms such as crystals, sand, and quartz. Silicone is used in many everyday items including lotion, processed foods, soaps, hairspray, and chewing gum.

West Palm Beach Plastic Surgeon Offers Reduction Mammoplasty

For a breast reduction, incisions are placed around the areola in an effort to slide it into its proper position followed by removal of excess sagging breast tissue and skin. In some cases, the incision will be limited to just around the areola. Other times it may involve an incision in the shape of an upside down T or anchor extending from the areola down the center portion of the breast and then into the inframammary fold. According to Dr. Pinsky, a West Palm Beach plastic surgeon, the amount of incisions that are required is determined by the amount of lifting that is desired.

Cosmetic Surgeons Use Mastopexy Surgery To Reshape And Raise A Woman's Breasts

Breast lift surgery restores a more youthful appearance to a woman's breasts. Over years breasts can lose their shape and firmness due to weight changes, pregnancy, and nursing with loss of skin elasticity causing them to sag. A mastopexy or breast lift, will raise and reshape the breasts slowing the effects of aging and gravity. This procedure can also reduce the size of the areola, the darker pigmented skin around the nipple. According to a West Palm Beach plastic surgeon, breast lift procedures are commonly performed in conjunction with a mammoplasty to increase breast fullness, firmness, and size. This may appeal to a woman who has lost breast volume after pregnancy.

West Palm Beach Plastic Surgeon Offers Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure to enhance the size and shape of a woman's breasts. Some candidates may feel that their breast size is too small. Dr. Pinsky, a West Palm Beach plastic surgeon says, breast augmentation is also a procedure to restore the volume of a woman's breasts following pregnancy. Breast augmentation can also be performed to correct for differences in a woman's right and left breast size. There are sometimes patients that have different surgical goals, for example some women will want a more natural breast shape that is in proportion to their figure. Others prefer a more rounded shape in the upper pole of their breast somewhat larger than their proportionate figure. These goals can be achieved by using larger or smaller saline breast implants, and by adjusting the fill volume for each of the implants. In the breast augmentation procedure, short incisions are placed in the inframammary fold, around the lower portion of the areola (pigmented portion of the nipple) or through the axilla.

Plastic Surgeons Have Discovered A Scarless Breast Reduction

Recent advances in breast surgery techniques allow for breast reduction (or reduction mammoplasty) using tumescent liposuction alone (scarless). Los Angeles plastic surgeons perform scarless breast reduction only in selected candidates, and may be performed without any of the traditional reduction surgery scars. Patients can demonstrate a 30-50% reduction in size of their breasts.

Breast reduction by liposuction alone will produce a smaller version of the breasts that a woman had before liposuction. The overall shape of the breast will be similar to their shape previous to surgery. Advantages of breast reduction by liposuction over traditional methods include significantly fewer visible scars, faster recovery, less discomfort, and fewer post-operative complications.

Woman Who Need A Mastectomy Often Choose To Have Breast Reconstruction

Any woman that is facing a removal of a breast also faces another difficult decision, the timing of and the desire for reconstructive breast surgery. While the procedure can be performed many years following breast cancer surgery, recent advances encourage patients to undergo simultaneous mastectomy and reconstruction. Simultaneous breast reconstruction offers several distinct emotional advantages: the avoidance of a non-reconstructed breast, a reduced period of postoperative discouragement in appearance, the avoidance of potentially unnatural appearing breast implants, and an improved sense of self-confidence and self-esteem. According to Dr. Hoefflin, a Los Angeles plastic surgeon, having the procedure performed simultaneously also offers several surgical advantages: preservation of native breast skin on the reconstructed breast, greater symmetry in shape and volume, and the avoidance of another major general anesthetic procedure.

Breast Augmentation in San Diego, CA

Still, breast augmentation is a surgical procedure. It should still be approached with an educated awareness of the potential risks and rewards. The Augmentation Mammoplasty Recovery Process Is Much Different Than The Process Of Preparing

The recovery process for a breast augmentation is a lot different from that of the preparation process. When you are preparing, there were many things that you were able to do in order to change the course of events. During the recovery process, however, your body will do most of the work by itself, provided that you aren't expecting everything to quickly happen and also provided that you do not tamper with the body's "autopilot." According to a breast augmentation book, if you understand what the expect, what's normal, and a few of the reasons behind the do's and don'ts, you will make the recovery process much smoother.

The process of recovery will be a team effort and will also depend on two key factors. What the surgeon does during surgery and how well you are able to follow the instructions provided by your surgeon after the surgery. The better your cosmetic surgeon performs, the less bleeding during the surgery, and the less trauma to your tissues. Also, the better you are able to follow your cosmetic surgeon's instructions following the breast augmentation, the faster you will be able to recover.

The Size And Shape Of A Woman's Breasts Can Be Enhanced Using Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation, more commonly referred to as augmentation mammoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that is used to enhance the shape and size of a woman's breasts for many different reasons. According to Dr. Ameen Habash, a Palm Desert plastic surgeon, the reasons include but are not limited to: To balance a difference in size between two breasts; as a reconstructive procedure following any other breast surgery; to correct breast volume after a woman loses volume due to pregnancy; to enhance the body contour of a woman who feels her breast size is too small. By placing an implant behind each breast, plastic surgeons are capable of increasing the bust-line of a woman by one or more bra cup sizes.

Breast Lift Can Dramatically Improve Self-Image, Self-Confidence And Quality Of Life

Many factors take their toll on a woman's breasts after years and years. These factors include nursing and pregnancy and the force of gravity. When the skin loses its elasticity, the breasts will usually lose some of their shape and firmness and begin to sag. A plastic surgery procedure known as a mastopexy, or breast lift, is designed to fight against those affects of aging. The surgery will reshape and raise sagging breasts at least for a time.

A breast lift surgery can also reduce the size of a woman's areola which is the darker skin that is around the nipple. In the case that your breasts have lost volume or are small, breast implants inserted during the procedure can greatly increase their size and their firmness.

According to Palm Desert plastic surgeon, Dr. Ameen Habash, the biggest reason that a woman seeks a breast lift is because nursing and pregnancy have left them with less volume and stretched skin in their breasts. If a woman is planning on having children, or more children, she should postpone the idea of having a breast lift until after she is done having children. There are no special risks that would affect a future pregnancy (mastopexy generally does not interfere with breast-feeding), pregnancy is more than likely going to stretch your breasts again and remove the results of the procedure.
